Jody Pond  was a active Sky Diver, I watched him in Colorado Springs at the Airforce Academy competing, He loved the sport and had as colorful foil (parachute) as he did personality. He was always at the edge of life with each jump. But what a wonderful guy.

Obituary published February 1, 2001 in Deseret News and Herald Journal

Alaska Jody Rex Pond, 53, died Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2001 from injuries sustained in a plane accident near Dutch Harbor on the Alaskan Peninsula. He was born on Dec. 14, 1947, to Harold A. and Ruby M. Pond. He has two loving sons, Wylie Rex and Skylor Snow Pond.

Jody was educated in the Cache County Schools and graduated from Sky View High School in 1966. He attended Utah State University and the University of Mexico, in Mexico City. While still in high school, Jody spent countless hours at the Logan Airport, where he developed a passion for flying and skydiving. He became a skydiving instructor and traveled throughout the United States to compete at the national level.

Jody felt fortunate to follow and live his dream of being a pilot and make it his livelihood. He owned and operated Majestic Air; a cargo transport service that flew needed supplies into many remote areas. Jody loved the mountains, hiking, snow skiing, motorcycles, running and competing in marathons. His enthusiasm and adventuresome spirit allowed him to enjoy life to its fullest.

He is survived by his sons, parents, and two sisters: Tamara Selley (Clair), Kandace Oldroyd (Randy); one brother, Larry A. (Jamie); three nieces; seven nephews, many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Loyal and Alice Pond, and Henry and Kristen Mockli.

The family would like to thank the U.S. Coast Guard of Alaska and the U.S. Air Force mountain rescue specialists for their help in recovery.
