Linda Baumgarner (Love)

Dayel was born June 25, 1948 in Lehi, Utah, and died November 11, 1979 in Layton, Utah.

We dated during our senior year; he and his family were kind to me, giving me fond memories.

I met him in German and Seminary classes. He stared at me until I was embarrassed, which is not an easy thing to do if you know me. After sharing warm apple cider at a football game he gained enough courage to ask me to date him, and then we were "steady" dating. He would even venture forth to watch a movie at my home with my siblings hanging around.

Part of Dayel's Christmas present was a surprise addition of my attendance with his family at Valley Music Hall where Dayel was working. He delighted in the surprise, and joined us to watch the lovely production.

Prior to a New Year's dance date, his parents picked me up in Hyrum on their return from shopping in Salt Lake City. A snow storm was encroaching, causing worry about dangerous driving conditions across the valley. After Dayel and I and three other couples enjoyed the evening, I slept at the Dean home. We played in the snow the next day before taking me home.

His family often provided music during various sacrament meetings throughout the valley. At Dayel's invitation, I attended at times, helping the younger sisters remain reverent.

I am unaware of his post highschool history, but he was a good friend, a fun fellow and I am grateful for those carefree, sweet memories. I'm even glad that he broke my heart, since I like how my life has developed. Yet, those early relationships do teach us how to be civil and social and how to be kind. Dayel and his family were kind to me.
