Fred Jay Paskett, 72, returned to his Heavenly Father on Sunday, 12 July 2020 at his home in South Jordan, Utah. He had been ill for some time and was under the care of Hospice.
Fred was born on 3 June 1948 to John and Greta Paskett.
He lived in Hyrum, Utah, attended Lincoln Elementary, Wellsville Junior High, South Cache High School and graduated from Sky View High School. He enjoyed sports and wrestled for both South Cache and Sky View High School. He served for 2 years in the Adelaide and Perth Australia Missions for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Upon his return, Fred attended and graduated from Utah State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing Management. His first job, a stock broker, took him to southern California. While there he also worked as an Account Manager for an aerospace company. After some time, he transferred back to Utah to be closer to family. While in Utah he started his own company doing home theater design and installation until physical limitations prevented his continuing.
He loved being outdoors. Catching fish was more enjoyable for him than eating them. For two summers after graduating from high school he worked for the forest service in Wyoming on a fire crew. During college Fred also worked for two summers in Alaska at a crab processing facility. Fred enjoyed cooking and loved trying new foods and restaurants. He had a special way food should be prepared, served, and eaten. Fred loved learning new hobbies and would dive into them with an obsession. He developed a love for working with wood, photography, and ceramics. Several of his ceramic pieces earned him best-of-show awards and ribbons at the Utah State Fair. At one time he lived at a facility with a close view of the Wasatch Mountains and would sit on the balcony and teach himself how to sketch mountain scenes. Fred was an avid reader and had a large collection of books. He would frequently read a book and then look for movies based on the book, which led to his large collection of movies. Die-cast model cars became one of his favorite things to collect, particularly the muscle cars from the ‘60s and ‘70s. He said it reminded him of his first and favorite car, a ‘63 Pontiac GTO.
He was well read and enjoyed teaching in Elder’s Quorum and Sunday School classes. This he did in most placed where he lived. He liked to talk with people of a variety of subjects.
Fred is survived by one sister and three brothers: Maxeen (Leon) Guymon, Brent (Leann) Paskett, Gary (Aletha) Paskett, and Keith (Laura) Paskett. He is also survived by one uncle, Dee (Lola) Savage; along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins. His parents (John & Greta Paskett) and one nephew (Ron J Guymon) preceded him in death.
A family memorial service will be held at a later date.
