Paula Anderson was born and raised in Millville, Utah. She passed away on July 11 of this past year. From the time we graduated from USU until her death, she lived and taught school in the Blackfoot, Idaho area. She started on the Fort Hall Indian reservation and was much loved by the Indian children and families she taught and interacted with. When she married Darrel Anderson in 1978, the Indian women made her a beautiful white dress and leather moccasins to honor her. She is survived by Darrel of Thomas, Idaho; 3 daughters and six grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and her stillborn triplet daughters.
I grew up with Paula. We were together in first grade thru 12th. We lost touch after that. I am sorry that she is not with us any longer. She was a friend for many years.
Paula Anderson, 65, Thomas resident, our angel wife and mother returned home to her Heavenly Father and other friends and family on Friday, July 11, 2014, at the Promise Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah, following a lingering illness.
Paula was born September 20, 1948, in Logan, Utah to Lewis Clenneth Anderson and Olla Maria Jenson. She attended grade school in Millville, Utah and graduated from Sky View High in 1966. Paula then went on to continue her education at Utah State University and graduated with a bachelor’s in Elementary Education.
After a lengthy five year courtship, Paula married Darrel Lynn Anderson in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple on July 14, 1978. They gratefully had a surprise 35th wedding anniversary celebration last year.
Paula started teaching in the Blackfoot School District from 1970 through 1979, teaching in Fort Hall, Stoddard and Elmwood Elementary. She then taught for Snake River School District in 1987 in Pingree and then in 1999 moved to Riverside Elementary until her retirement in 2004. In her free time Paula enjoyed making multimedia presentations, creating school or church plays and writing choir programs. Paula also loved decorating her home and had a different holiday theme portrayed each month. She enjoyed tole painting new holiday crafts for her decorations. She loved to have her family experience new things, make memories and celebrate all life events. People were very important to her and she was a friend to everyone. In fact, friends often become family.
Paula was a member of the Snake River Education Association and was a past president, she was teacher of the year in 1991 and a mentor for the teachers at Snake River.
She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served as secretary in every auxiliary. Most recently she served as Primary music chorister where she magnified her calling which was true to form. For the past ten years she worked at the Idaho Falls LDS Temple and served there as coordinator.
Paula is survived by her husband, Darrel of Thomas, Idaho; daughters, Rebecca Lynne (James) Broadbent of Kearns, Utah, Elizabeth Marie Anderson of Blackfoot, Idaho, Emily Michelle Anderson of Blackfoot, Idaho and a daughter of the heart, Mary Elizabeth Dye (Brian) George; brothers, Jerry Clenneth (Vicki) Anderson of Homedale, Idaho and DelMar (Karla) Anderson on Millville, Utah; and six grandchildren, Jenna Kaye Broadbent, James “Paul” Broadbent, Katelyn Marie George, James William George, Aubrey Beth George and McKenzie Lyn George.
She is preceded in death by her parents, stillborn triplet daughters, Sarah, Christina and Rachel; brother-in-law, Dan Gilbert Berry; and sister, Utona Berry.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 19, 2014, at the Thomas LDS Church with Bishop Lanny Ogden of the Thomas 3rd Conducting. The family will meet with friends on Friday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the Hawker Funeral Home, 132 South Shilling Avenue in Blackfoot and again on Saturday at the church for an hour prior to services. Interment will be in the Riverside Thomas Cemetery.
