School Story:
Ruth Alley Bradshaw
Ruth was born the 3rd daughter, 3rd child of Gerald Irwin and Evelyn Seamons Alley, in March of 1948, in Logan, Utah. The family, however lived on a Ranch in South Eden, Utah on the East side of Bear Lake, now called Rattlesnake Lane.. And yes I survived Rattlesnake Lane! If you live on a Ranch, you know it is milking cows at 5:00 a.m. in the morning and 5:00 p.m. at night, every single day! We were foot-loose and free to roam the hills around the farm. Free to eat the delicious, wild, berries, we could not wait to pop into our mouths, in the Spring and early Summer. We loved to sleep out under the stars at night, during the summer, or go swimming in the lake after chores. Living in Bear Lake also had it trials, encountering Rattlesnakes, Bobcats and Coyotes, that would come from the mountains after food and water, or being snowed- in, or frozen water pipes in the Winter time.
In the winter of 1960, while driving home from school, we, my older sisters Margaret and Nancy, and younger brother George, and I were in a head-on auto accident, that put my older sisters in the hospital.
The stress from the accident caused my mom to have a miscarriage. My parents decided that it would be better for my dad to change jobs, from a Ranch/mine, so they moved to Logan. There, my dad became a school teacher. The first year, we lived in Logan, then built a house in North Logan. In North Logan, we went to South Cache to school and rode the bus across the valley. The next year we went to Smithfield Jr. high. Ninth grade at South Cache again, then back to Sky View.
After graduating form Sky View, I went to USU, and worked at Tidwell’s Hambuger Stand on 4th north. And later, I worked at Arden’s dress shop. When I was 19, I was walking on the road, (no sidewalks) and was hit by a truck. I spend the next while stretching my leg, to match the other leg(1”) and learn how to walk. I started back to USU and worked at the Bluebird as a waitress. I went on a mission to Zurich, Switzerland for 2 years. Clair Merrill was even my District Leader once. Yea, he went there too, along with my brother Steve and Later, Brain Lundberg. When I came home, I came with my brother George, who had been on a mission in Sweden.
I went back to USU. And worked as a caterer at USU. I met my husband at the LDS Institute and the Logan temple, where I was in charge of filling assignments for the USU LDS Stakes. After we married, we moved to Roy, so my husband, Mike could intern at Roy High School as a Biology Teacher.
He then got a job on Carbon County (Price, Utah) Teaching Biology. We lived there for 37 years, had 6 children, 3girls and 3 boys. When my boys got old enough to go on Missions for the church, I started working for Sunshine cookies and Hallmark Cards as a merchandiser to pay for them. When our youngest daughter, 6th child started school, I worked as a Librarian for 18 years. My favorite place to work as a librarian, was in a small town, 20 miles east of price named Sunnyside, Utah. It was an elementary school, so they had recess. Many times we had to keep the kids in school because of a Bobcat, Deer, Antelope, and even a Big Horn Sheep, that came on the playground. I retired after 18 years ,so I could take my Father-in Law over the mountain to Dr. appointments for his Parkinson's. disease. My Husband retired in after 37 years of teaching Biology, Computer Science, and Detention. In 2011, our youngest daughter, was pregnant with twins and on bed -rest for 7 months. We moved to Salt Lake, to help her with her pregnancy. She gave birth to Twin boys, in June. There were complications, one son had to have open -heart surgery at 8 months and at 12 months the other twin had Neutropenia. We continued helping until the twins were 18 months old. And daughter said, she could handle it now. So in 2013, we went on a mission for the church. We were called to San Paulo, Brazil, on a Perpetual Education and Humanitarian mission. However 9 months later, we did have our visa’s, so they recalled us to Long Beach, California working in the mission office. We loved it! We were out for 9 months, when Mike’s mother, called and told him, we needed to come home and take care of her. We had to wait until other missionaries came to take our place. Which was at 12 months. WE came home, moved to Midvale and rented a house, 2 days later Mike’s mom came to live with us. She passed away of Alzheimer's in February of 2021. While she was with us we also served 18 months on a service mission in West Jordan LDS Employment Resource Service. We loved that mission also. We are enjoying our 20 Grand kids, 18 living. We had 2 girls and the rest boys for 20 years. The last two grand children were girls. Our oldest Daughter had Quads, 2 surviving. We are however, hating this growing old stuff also the Pandemic. We now live in West Jordan, with a big tree in our back yard, with 6 swings in it. This month our oldest grandson goes to Birmingham, Alabama on his mission.
